RV Ride Control Articles
Below is a set of articles that cover some basic concepts related to improving the ride safety and comfort of your RV.
Suspension Basics
Here is a well-presented article on RV suspension basics published at TrailerLife.com
RV, trailer, and fifth-wheel suspension systems are frequently overlooked. However, the suspension is a very important part of ride control and safety. A properly functioning and well-maintained suspension ensures a safe and enjoyable towing experience.
RV Weight and Suspension
(and other things too)
An article published in the Live Small Ride Free blog.
Do a google image search on “RV trailer accident”. There is plenty to see (and Google includes truck-campers and motorhomes, too). These are not “freak” accidents that only happen once in a while.
You are fully responsible for your rig. If your rig is unsafely loaded or has insufficient suspension for the weight or travel conditions, and causes an accident, the RV dealer, RV manufacturer, tow vehicle manufacturer, and hitch manufacturer are not at fault. You are.
Consider that if you crash your rig, you can hurt people besides yourself, such as those behind you on the highway. That is your responsibility: Morally, legally, and financially.
A Simple RV Suspension Upgrade

This is a YouTube video done by Jared at All About RVs. You get to see him talk but also get to see how the springs work by having a camera under the RV for some excellent imagery.
Jared shows how simple it is to install these RV suspension springs.
Top 6 Suspension Modification for Truck Camper Rigs
An article published at TruckCamperAdventure.com
Your suspension system is vital to the ride and safety of your truck camper rig. The suspension includes not only your truck’s wheels and tires, but also your truck’s springs, shocks, and steering.
All are critical in how your truck rides and handles, but their importance is amplified even more when you’re hauling a 3,000 pound, top-heavy truck camper.
Rough Road and a Rough Ride
Aftermarket Suspension Options
Here is a well-presented article titled “Rough Ride Fifth Wheel”. It was published at TrailerLife.com
There are numerous suspension accessories available including replacement leaf-spring equalizers that incorporate softer suspension components all the way up to an aftermarket airbag suspension.
These RV ride control items all provide some relief from the notoriously stiff leaf springs used on most trailers and fifth-wheels.
Improvements in RV Handling
This is a FAQ article published at RV Tech Library.
The diesel RV rigs may handle nicely just as their suspension is fitted out at the factory. However, some chassis suspension can benefit from a bit of assistance.
Sometimes a bit of suspension tweaking here and there can make a big huge difference. The secret is knowing what is needed. Many RVers spend needless amounts of money installing RV ride control components that really don’t address the problem they have.
Compressible Liquid Improves Ride Control and Comfort
A few aftermarket products designed to improve the ride and handling of the F-53 chassis have entered the scene over the years, but the latest from LiquidSpring, called a Compressible Liquid Adaptive Suspension System (CLASS), is destined to change the paradigm of how owners view – and drive – motorhomes built on the F-53 chassis.
To find out how it works, a system was installed in a 2011 Winnebago Adventurer which was loaded 22,000 pounds, This Winnebago exhibited all the negative handling behaviors common with the Ford chassis. The motorhome had 16,261 miles on the odometer.
Spoiler Alert: Was it worth it? The answer was a definite YES.
